Short story time.

A few years ago I met up with a fellow game fair visitor sat on a hill side overlooking a scurry at Harewood House. I knew of his reputation and allsorts of stories around this guy but we chatted about dogs and running dogs at scurries . It transpired that out there at fairs all over the country people ran dogs against the clock picking up dummies returning to their handlers and then going again. Some of the scurries involved 1 dummy some up to at the time 5 dummies.

What has become clear since that first meeting is that there is a large group of people out there that love to run their dogs at scurries everywhere .There are a large number of folk who go to fairs to compete, to challenge their dogs against the best! the aim, to stand and receive their rosette and dog food vouchers at the the end of the day.

There are the juniors who some run dads dog some run their own dogs all welcome all encouraged because as Carl Cox keeps saying without them there is no future .

Probability the biggest group are the Novice scurriers, some of these have never tried to get their little pet to retrieve anything but a stick in the park. Our aim, to get these people to have a go, and come back again and again.

Scurries , some are simple some are difficult with a variety of level\'s between. First level entry, the ever popular bale jumping competition simple in concept in that all you have to do is to get your little dog to jump over 4 or 5 two high bales of straw retrieve a dummy and return over the the bales with the dummy to you at the start line.

Problem?? not all dogs jump and not all dogs can count.

Solution get dog to go ever 1 then 2 then 3 and so on and so on. I find this the most entertaining of all the scurry events . Watching and helping the handler who comes along and say\'s\" my dogs never done this\" and after 10 minutes training is off buying more tickets to have one more attempt to beat their last timed effort.
